Revolut went down on Tuesday morning: cards failed even in shops

Revolut, which says it has more than 80 million personal customers worldwide, suffered a major outage on Tuesday morning. Users in the United Kingdom, France and Spain reported that the app was not working and that they could not pay or transfer money. UK Yahoo Finance wrote that, unlike in many other banking outages, users said their cards stopped working in shops too.

The online tool Downdetector registered a spike of more than 1,500 problem reports around 8am, City AM reports. Ireland's The Journal says that at 8.50am Revolut's system status page listed 31 services as partially unavailable, including card payments, transfers, ATM withdrawals and account login. Yahoo wrote in its article that the same page was still showing that everything was working.

Revolut said on X that it was a disruption affecting several services, that its engineers were working on a fix, and that customers' money and data were safe. It did not state the cause, the number of people affected or when full service would be restored.

According to The Journal, the outage is said to have originated with an external provider, as other services had problems too. The same source writes that Google Cloud reported problems in the Europe West region, including occasional network outages. Revolut did not confirm this link.

Whether the outage also hit Slovenian users, we have not found out for now. We have not come across any reports of problems in Slovenia at the time of writing, which does not mean there were none. If your card does not work, it is wise to carry cash or a card from another bank.
