Croats ask when they'll get our snow. On Kredarica, it has already vanished
Croatian portals N1 and Index report that snow has already arrived in Slovenia. Data from Arso, the Slovenian Environment Agency, show 10 centimetres of it on Kredarica on 12 October, and none by Wednesday evening.

On Thursday morning, Croatian media took up the question of when the snow that has already fallen in Slovenia will reach them too. The portal N1 Hrvatska published its article at 9.26, Index.hr at 10.35.
N1 writes that snow is falling on Kredarica. Index is more precise and less dramatic. According to its report, snow already fell on Kredarica, a weather station at 2,514 metres above sea level, on 12 October. Arso measured 10 centimetres then, when a cold front lowered the snow line to roughly 2,000 metres. Some snow also fell on Krvavec.
The snow cover did not last. Index cites Arso data from the evening of 21 October: there was no snow on Kredarica, only rain was recorded. The snow that Croatian headlines describe in the present tense has, in other words, already disappeared in Slovenia.
When will Croats see it? According to the latest forecast by DHMZ, the Croatian state hydrometeorological institute, for 23 to 25 October, no snow is expected in Croatian lowlands. Over the weekend, inland temperatures are expected to be between four and six degrees at night and mostly between 12 and 14 during the day. Index notes that conditions in most inhabited places are still more suited to rain than to snow.
The first flakes could appear only in the highest parts of the mountains. For now, DHMZ has published no specific snow forecast for Croatian mountains and no date. HRT meteorologist Krunoslav Mikec said only:
"On Saturday, snowflakes might dance in the mountains too." (translated)
N1 cites its weather forecaster Tea Blažević. She says the weather will stay cloudy and wet in the coming days too. On Friday morning it will be colder inland, and Saturday will be mostly cloudy with rain and showers. Because colder air will arrive with a northerly wind, rain in the highest mountains may turn to snow. Whether the snow line drops even lower will depend on the strength of the cooling and the amount of precipitation.
For Slovenian readers the conclusion is simple: the snow being written about in Croatia was October snow, and high-mountain snow. Kredarica got 10 centimetres of it and lost it again. For the lowlands, Slovenian or Croatian, nobody is forecasting any.
